Preparing Your Home

The photo shoot typically takes between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the home and how prepared it is. I will be photographing both the interior and exterior, focusing on all major rooms. Garages are usually not included unless they feature something unique.

If your home has any special or hidden features you’d like showcased, please let me know ahead of time so I can include them.

  • Remove all vehicles from the driveway and avoid parking directly in front of the home.

  • Move garbage cans out of sight.

  • Put away garden tools, hoses, and sprinklers.

  • Mow and rake the yard, arrange outdoor furniture, and open any patio umbrellas.

  • Sweep driveways, sidewalks, and patios.

  • Turn on all interior lighting, including lamps and overhead fixtures.

  • Clear countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms.

  • Remove photos, notes, and papers from the refrigerator.

  • Turn off ceiling fans and televisions.

  • De-clutter rooms that may be overly furnished, as they don’t photograph well.

  • Make all beds and tidy up bedrooms. Hang, fold, or store clothing.

  • Remove stacks of newspapers and magazines.

  • Store trash cans out of sight, ideally in a closet or cupboard.
